It's Groundhog Day! The time where we hand our meteorological predictions over to a rodent. A rodent!
As silly as the holiday may be, it did inspire one the best Bill Murray movies ever, "Groundhog Day". (It's second only to "Scrooged" in my opinion.) I'm sure when this movie was released in 2003 the idea of someone ordering a glass of sweet vermouth with a twist might have seemed silly. But I would argue that Andie MacDowell's character, "Rita", was ahead of her time. Today vermouth forward cocktails are all the rage.
No two vermouths are the same. They range from herbaceous to spicy, from subtle to rich. I occasionally like to enjoy a glass of Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth chilled. It's dark and rich with hints of cocoa and spice. My mouth is watering at the thought.
So here's to Punxsutawney Phil? And may he predict an early spring!
And if he doesn't? Well...I hear sweet vermouth pairs well with rodent.
