I've always wanted to name a cocktail Linus Laments. It’s a nod to to the peanuts character and his pursuit of the great pumpkin.
I picture Linus in his late 30’s. Life hasn't gone quite his way. His book deal fell through and Sally keeps pressuring him to get a job at her brother's used car lot. He's got a mortgage, two unplanned (at least by him) bratty kids, and have lost what little hair he had. But he doesn't give up hope.
Every year he waits in that same pumpkin patch, praying to see just a glimpse of the great pumpkin. And every year he's disappointed. He heads to the bar. The bartender, upon seeing Linus walk in, makes him the most sincere cocktail that both ignites the spirit and drowns the despair that Halloween can bring. After a few, Linus mourns another year without his pumpkin savior but vows to never to give up his quest. If he is full of sincerity, surely he shall come.
