One of the first cocktails I learned to make was the Negroni. My husband insisted on it. He'd gone to a new neighborhood bar and fell in love with the bitter sweetness of the Negroni.
Since then we've had many variations. Campari is always a constant, but your choice of gin and sweet vermouth can seem to create a new drink every time. After trying so many different combinations I've narrowed it down to my absolute favorite.
1 oz. Ransom Old Tom Gin
1 oz. Dolin Sweet Vermouth
1 oz. Campari
Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with orange slice.
The sweetness of the Old Tom Gin helps to balance the bitterness of the Campari. Combined with a great sweet vermouth like Dolin, this variation is both refreshing and flavorful.
June 1st-7th is Negroni Week. For one week bars around the world will mix their favorite Negroni variations and donating a portion of proceeds from each one sold to a charity of their choice.
Visit the Negroni Week website to find a participating bar in your area.
