Simple Syrup

Basic syrup recipe used for a number of cocktails.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    White Granulated Sugar
  • 1 part    Filtered Water

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.

SHAKE METHOD: Combine sugar and water in a large bottle. Shake until water becomes cloudy. Allow to sit. Shake again until sugar dissolves.

Rich Simple Syrup

A sweeter syrup using double the sugar. I prefer to use a rich syrup in Old Fashions or Sours.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts    White Granulated Sugar
  • 1 part     Filtered Water

Directions:

  1.  Bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3.  Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.

Honey Syrup

The simplest of syrups to make. Use in a  Bees Knees cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    Honey
  • 1 part    Filtered Water

Directions:

  1. In a clear bottle add honey and water.
  2. Shake until the two combine.

Agave Syrup

Purchase at your local grocery store. Try it in Tequila cocktails, after all they come from the same plant.

Grenadine Syrup

While you can purchase grenadine in your grocery store, odds are that it’s nothing more than colored high-fructose corn syrup. Grenadine comes from the French word “grenade” meaning pomegranate. Actual grenadine is pomegranate syrup. With the resurgence of old-school cocktails true grenadine can now be purchased but may still be hard to find.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    White Granulated Sugar
  • 1 part    Pomegranate Juice (no sugar added)

Directions:

  1. Bring juice to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.

Brown Sugar Syrup

Use for a richer molasses flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    Brown Sugar
  • 1 part    Filtered Water

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.

Demerara Syrup

A large grain sugar with a toffee flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    Demerara Sugar
  • 1 part    Filtered Water

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.

Turbinado Syrup

A “raw” sugar containing natural molasses and has a caramel flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part    Tubindao Sugar
  • 1 part    Filtered Water

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in sugar until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool before use.
